TILES

Drawing on the tradition of tile painting, the artist sought to fragment them, give them new meanings, and expand them beyond their decorative function.Tiles, a language of surface, here become a field of artistic and affective experimentation.

The "squares" are undone, multiplied, broken up, or formed into compositions where geometry coexists with gesture, and repetition gives way to variation and chance. There's an implicit memory in the materials, and the "loose tile"

serves as the matrix for her inspiration in multiple series.

Sousa Pedro Comercial

"Crescente em Azul-Cobalto"

6.000 Tiles

Albarraque - Sintra 1995

Interior panel for a circular wall at Sousa Pedro Comercial, by invitation of architect Álvaro Cameira, extending across 3 floors.

With 6,000 blue-painted tiles, a crescent was designed that stretches up to the top floor of the building.

In addition to the welcoming figure on the ground floor, at the entrance to the staircase, it includes scattered nymphs blending into the blues and details of sgraffito tiles on the white glaze, with universal symbols.
