Maria de Freitas (also known as Mizé, the tap dancer) was born in 1959 in Lisbon. Daughter of a designer/decorator, she grew up surrounded by lines, volumes, and perspectives, which led her to study ceramics at the António Arroio school of Arts, where she fell in love with tilework. Later, she delved deeper into drawing the human body at the National Society of Fine Arts and began painting on canvas at the Arte-Ilimitada school—a turning point that redefined her perspective and creative process.

She has exhibited regularly since the 1990s, with tile and in painting works. Her practice combines technical rigor with gestural freedom, turning painting into a kind of visual choreography.

Currently, she works in her studio, dedicating herself to drawing and painting, creating a body of work for a new exhibition. She is open to other interesting projects that may arise and excite her... She lives and works in Torres Vedras.
